RetrofitWorks appointed to lead Mayor of London’s Warmer Homes programme

RetrofitWorks, the not-for-profit co-operative, is delighted to announce they have been appointed to manage the £40m planned investment to improve the energy efficiency of Greater London homes, as part of the Mayor of London’s Warmer Homes programme.

Tony Beer, Managing Director of RetrofitWorks comments: “RetrofitWorks has been campaigning for a national energy efficiency home retrofit strategy for many years, so the investment from the Mayor of London which was announced as part of a “retrofit revolution” to improve the energy efficiency of homes in the Greater London area, is a welcome plan and one that we are delighted to be associated with.

“The Warmer Homes programme offers over £36m to owner-occupied and privately rented homes to support the installation of a variety of measures such as External Wall Insulation, loft and underfloor insulation as well as Air Source Heat Pumps, and Solar PV. Grants of between £5,000 and £25,000 can be applied for, with funding dependant on the existing energy efficiency rating of the home, the tenure and the current fuel type installed. The programme also targets supporting 2,890 low-income households, and aims to achieve annual fuel bill savings of £1,072,000, and annual CO2 savings of 3,469 tCO2/yr.

“The role of RetrofitWorks is to offer impartial advice, guide homeowners and tenants through the process, shoulder the burden of project management and most importantly, with Trustmark accredited installers, ensure quality of materials and work done. Taking a holistic approach to retrofit is absolutely critical to get the best from the funding. RetrofitWorks brings together the best in green building practice by working exclusively with Retrofit Coordinators who will assess each property and create a ‘whole house plan’ that shows what can be done to meet the goals of reducing fuel bills, carbon emissions and improved comfort, and help prioritise works to get the most out of the investment.”

RetrofitWorks will be working alongside its partner Gemserv, an expert provider of professional services, helping clients make the most of a world increasingly driven by data and technology. Gemserv will be supporting Retroworks, developing the necessary application process, customer journey and validating the eligibility of applicants. David Hiller, Project Director for Gemserv noted:

“We are delighted to support GLA and Retrofitworks on this incredibly important programme. The UK faces an unprecedented cost of living increase and record energy prices, with low-income households expected to be most severely hit by the crisis. Improving the energy efficiency of the building stock in London is now critical and a key solution to help people save on energy cost.”
