Frequently asked questions!

What is the Warm Homes: Local Grant?

The Warm Homes: Local Grant is a government scheme that funds free energy efficiency and low-carbon home upgrades in England. It helps households cut energy bills, stay warmer, and contribute to the UK’s Net Zero targets.

No - the scheme is fully subsidised for eligible households, so you do not need to contribute any money towards the works or installation.

Typical upgrades include insulation, solar panels, heat pumps, smart heating controls, glazing, draught-proofing, and ventilation, based on what your home assessment recommends.

Yes - landlords can apply. The first eligible property is fully funded, while any additional rental properties are funded at a fifty percent contribution rate.

The scheme runs from April 2025 to March 2028, subject to funding and council delivery, so applications must be made within this period.

You can apply if you own or privately rent a home with an EPC rating of D to G, and either have income under £36,000 or receive a means-tested benefit.

How do I apply?

Applications are managed through your council. You can contact them directly or use the online link, once live, to confirm eligibility and book an assessment.

All home upgrades are installed by accredited and approved contractors, appointed by your local council to ensure quality and safety.

Some measures like insulation or heating upgrades may need access inside your property, but installers will explain the process before any work starts.

If you do not meet the criteria, your local council may still be able to point you towards other schemes or financial support for home energy upgrades.

At RetrofitWorks, we are working in partnership with Eastbourne Council, Lewes District Council, Rother District Council and Hastings Borough Council.
