What is a Whole House Plan?

A Whole House Plan, also known as a Whole House Retrofit Plan, is a detailed recommendations report and an invaluable first step for anyone considering improving the energy efficiency of their home. It’s a decision-making tool that shows you where energy is currently being used or wasted in your home and makes a series of recommendations about which improvements would improve its energy efficiency, showing you the estimated cost of each improvement and the predicted benefits in terms of energy bills, COemissions and EPC rating.

How is a Whole House Plan produced?

A Plan starts with a Retrofit Assessment – a thorough survey to gather the information about your home that is needed to produce the Plan. The Retrofit Assessor uses the information to build a digital model of your home.

The Retrofit Coordinator, who may be the same person as the Assessor but performing a different role, uses the base model to analyse your home’s current energy use and then looks at the potential costs and benefits of a long list of potential improvements.

What does a Whole House Plan include?

What’s the value of a Plan?

A Whole House Plan is written by a Retrofit Coordinator, an independent, impartial expert who is not tied to a particular solution, so you can be sure that their recommendations are the most appropriate improvements for your home, taking account of its age and construction.

It’s called a Whole House Plan. Can I still have a plan if I own a flat?

Yes! It should really be called a Whole Home Plan. There may be some improvements that aren’t possible in a flat because you don’t own the whole building, or you may need to work with the other owners of your building to make improvements together. Your Plan will discuss these constraints.
